Shake it out
Florence + The machine
This song for Florence+The machine is like many of their songs that convey someone who’s struggling with their pasts or their evil versions against their will of their good versions to grow stronger. Shake it out in my interpretation is about a woman who’s being chased by the past, and the ghouls that she is talking about in the song are other versions of herself trying to stop her and weaken her.And although the lyrics of the song might convey or describe a woman who is weak or was weak, the music and the rhythm alongside with the other part of the lyrics give the feeling of someone who’s despite of her weaknesses she is growing stronger and stronger, she is leaving everything that has been stopping her behind, even burying her heart so, and in this she is becoming another woman, she is coming out stronger, and more confident. She is not regretting what she did, on the con- tray she is growing over it, and acknowledging her demons as a part of her whether she likes it or not. She is a woman who’s owning her mistakes. The butterflies in the cover represent the demons, demons do not always look bad, and here they are butterflies for the fact that although butterflies look pretty but their attitude and their nature is very wild and they are evil most of the times.
